The Arizona Project depicts landmark locations, old mining towns and cities throughout Arizona. Many of us have seen images of places like the Grand Canyon and Tombstone frequently enough that even without visiting in person we have a memory and cultural understanding of these places.
By photographing these landmarks with a 4×5 view camera and using the manipulation of focus available through tilt and shift, the places appear as models, toys, or more perfect versions of themselves – suggesting the fantasy and romance built around our ideas of theses locations.
The majority of this project was commissioned by the Clarendon Hotel and Spa in Phoenix, AZ.
