The Arizona Project, a commission for the Clarendon Boutique Hotel in downtown Phoenix, is a series of photographs depicting "landmarks", old mining towns and urban areas of Arizona. The American West is romanticized: we have seen images of places like the Grand Canyon and Tombstone so frequently that even without ever visiting in person we have a memory and cultural understanding of the place. By photographing these places in such a way that they appear as models, toys or more perfect versions of themselves, the images begin to suggest the fantasy and romance built around our ideas of theses places.
